When I’m asked about the importance of stretching I’m reminded of a cat that used to sit on our front wall. He would stretch out from head to tail in readiness for the day’s endevours. Nature has an uncanny way of reminding us what we should be doing!!
Q. Why is it good to stretch in the morning?
It is a great way to stay in shape, to become more supple and relieve sore muscles. It can also help to relieve stress and anxiety. Stretching first thing in the morning has a calming effect on the body.
Q. How long are you supposed to stretch for?
A basic – static stretch, should last about 30 seconds. Anything less than 20 seconds won’t make a significant difference in lengthening muscle fibers and tissues
Q. Can stretching help you loose weight?
While stretching does not typically contribute to weight loss, it does help prepare your body for the activities that do help you loose weight.
Remember a stretch can be completed at any time – it doesn’t have to be fancy.
Try it now…stand up, raise your arms into the air above your head as you inhale, hold gently release and repeat. – well done, your stretching!!
